Conference dinner

The conference dinner

The conference dinner will be held on Thursday, February 7, at Palazzo Borghese, one of the most striking examples of neoclassic architecture, located in the middle of the historic centre of Florence, very close to the Duomo, Piazza Santa Croce and Piazza della Signoria (see the map).

Palazzo Borghese
The Palace owes its name to the prince Camillo Borghese, married into the Salviati family, who owned the building at the beginning of the 19th century. Its complete name is Palazzo Borghese Aldobrandini, and its history begins in the middle of the 15th century when the Salviati brothers entrusted the famous architect Michelozzo to turn various medieval houses with a single building. This was further enlarged in the early 16th century, and then totally renewed by Gherardo Silvani (1579-1675). Following the marriage of Anna Salviati with the Roman Prince Marcantonio IV Borghese, many of the assets of Salviati passed to Prince Camillo Borghese, who took temporary residence in the Palace, after his marriage to Pauline Bonaparte. On the occasion of the wedding between Grand Duke Ferdinand III and Princess Maria Ferdinanda of Saxony in May 1821, Camillo Borghese entrusted the renovation of the building to the young architect Gaetano Baccani, responsible of the actual façade. After the death of Prince Borghese, the Palace was inherited by other Florentine families, and in 1843 the owner Luigi Cappelli decided to offer the entire first floor of the building to host of the first "Casino" in Italy. Since 1994, the actual heirs, the family Tognini Bonelli, have decided to offer the most prestigius parts of the building for happenings and events.

How to get there

Palazzo Borghese is located in Via Ghibellina, 110. From the conference venue or one of the hotels nearby, you can walk throughout the historic centre in max 15 minutes; alternatively you can take the bus C1, hop off at 'Teatro Verdi' and then take the first on the right hand and walk for 5 min or you can take a taxi (about 10 euros).
